During the early years of our operation MPT, self financed a test program of all nitridable material and documented the resulting case quality & depth, process time, gas mix effect, surface hardness, and optimum process pressure.

This test program, though expensive, gave MPT staff the confidence of meeting customer requirements at the highest quality with competitive pricing.

Our quality enhancement and cost reduction is always the objective of MPT. The Mechanical Masking concept is one of many accomplished objectives.

Plasma/Ion-Nitriding is the only process performed by MPT and therefore with pride, it’s our specialty. We coordinate with the design engineers and recommend to our customers the requirement alternative available best suited for their design. The result of this close coordination has generated the satisfaction of the design requirement, the anticipated quality and the competitive price.

For many years MPT declined to process Plasma/Ion Nitriding for copper plated parts. Our experience indicated that the sputtering in the plasma process could create “hard spots”, in addition, the nitride case and the surface hardness are below requirement.

This is due to the inhibiting nature of the sputtered copper on the virgin area to be nitrided. This mechanical masking is re-useable for the life of the program, eliminating the ever-increasing cost and turn around time of the copper plating process.
